Reflecting the Grace of God (Psalms 51:13)
The over all calling of man is to become light to the grossly darkened world. It is our purpose and core objective for living. The reason God gave you breath for another day is to show the light to your world. This was King David's heart cry in the above scripture. It is one thing to sin against God; it is another to come back to Him, ask Him for forgiveness and repent totally of your sins. David realized that he had sinned greatly against God and decided that he would go back to Him.
One admirable thing here is that he did not just repent, but the burden to save the souls of the lost was greatly upon him. He went to God to receive the grace, not just to be cleaned from his sins, but to reach out to others. Now, the question is: What is the essence of your salvation? It is only when we come to terms with the fact that the salvation and the grace we have received are not for our consumption only, but for us to share with the world, that we would begin to live fulfilled lives. The Bible lets us know that we cannot light a candle and put it under a bushel. The same thing with our lives, we cannot receive the grace of God in vain; we MUST reflect it to others.
Kind David said: "Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you" (Psalm 51:3 GNTL). Prior to that, he asked God for total cleansing of his sins and that the Lord will give him the joy of salvation. What a prayer! No wonder God said that David was a man after his own heart. He knew that the number one business of God is to win souls and impact the world. Just as the sun gives light to the earth and even to the moon, we are to give light to this earth. The light of the sun reflects on the moon, so should our light so shine before men, so that they can see our good works and glorify God.
When our lives become rivers poured out to the thirsty and scorched world, meaning and fulfilment will be recorded. David practically went to God to ask him to restore him to his place of holiness and unadulterated walk with God. This request was not just for him to end in the front pew of the church, clapping and singing, and probably bearing the name "deacon" or "elder". This was a conscious and desperate longing to see that the kingdom of God is advanced. God is calling us today to Himself, not just for us to have Him, but to expose Him to our world. May we become and remain light. Shalom!
