ABORTION: A SOCIAL MENACE
It all seemed like a dream when she
discovered that she was 5 months pregnant. She was shocked and deeply
heartbroken to find out that only one careless sexual play made her get
pregnant out of wedlock. “What would my family think of me?” She asked herself.
She cried her eyes out as she felt the world was crumbling down on her. She
felt as though she could dig the ground and bury herself beneath the earth.
Bridget had to endure all the sufferings
and shame which her pregnancy brought to her. She thought of getting rid of the
baby but her conscience disagreed with that. Despite all these, her family
members still encouraged her; though many of her friends deserted her. Bridget
finally gave birth to a baby girl and was glad she did not abort the baby.
As the saying goes, “every cloud has a
silver lining”. Bridget’s disgrace and disappointment turned out to be a
blessing to her and her family at large. When she later got married, she was
not able to give birth to another child; but thanks to the Almighty, she had
her little princess to her. This brings me to my main topic “Abortion.”
We do hear about abortion everywhere in
our society today, even some of you that are reading this right now have been
victims of this dangerous cankerworm eating deep into the moral fabric of our
present society. What then is abortion? Abortion literarily means the
termination of something, but in this context, it means the intentional and
forceful removal of a developing foetus (baby) from a woman’s womb. Many ladies
carry out this process without knowing the harm they cause themselves.
Biblically, sex is a sin before
marriage, but our society has projected sex to a level such that it is no
longer a sin but seen as a common phenomenon. Sex has been projected through
the use of pornography. When one engages in this immoral act without
protection, unwanted pregnancy is likely to occur which finally breeds
abortion.
Sex before marriage is the first sin and
then, abortion, the second. There are many consequences of abortion. One is
unintentional damage or total removal of the uterus (womb). In this case, the
woman can never get pregnant again in her entire lifetime, unless by a miracle.
The second and most dangerous consequence of abortion is death. So, before you
go ahead with that abortion you want to carry out, think about the
consequences. You may think that other ladies are doing it and going scot free,
but you can never determine your own fate. Forget whatever that boyfriend or
fiancé of yours says about it. God is still watching and your conscience is
still pleading. The first mistake of sexual relations had been made; don’t make
a second one which might end your life. ABORTION IS MURDER! It is a social
menace in our society and needs to be eradicated.
My honest advice to young ladies out
there is to avoid anything that will bring about abortion because of future
regrets. The lady in our story had no child when she got married; imagine if
she had removed that precious jewel, she would have lived a life of utmost
misery. Besides, you can’t tell how the “saviour” of this generation will come
forth. Abortion is not an option. Do not play with your lives because life is
too short to joke with.

The world is still changing by the day and so many society vices are becoming worse.
